Immaculate Grid Strategy: Rarity vs. Accuracy

6-minute read

The 3×3 Grid rewards obscure correct answers with low rarity scores — just like Immaculate Grid in baseball. But there's a math trap: a 100% rarity answer is worth nothing if it's wrong.

Expected value of every cell

For each cell, compute EV = P(correct) × (100 − rarity). A 70%-confidence answer at 40 rarity yields EV = 42. A 30%-confidence answer at 10 rarity yields EV = 27. Take the boring one.

Build around your weakest axis

If one row is a league you barely follow, spend your first two picks there — don't save the hard rows for last when the easy names are already claimed.

Know the crossover traps

"Played for Real Madrid × Scored in Champions League final" sounds easy but most answers are already taken by round 3.
